Day 19: Favourite book turned into a movie.

I haven't completely read through The Time Traveler's Wife, but I've seen the movie and it make me cry buckets and buckets. I've even read the book at Mara's house for about 45 minutes and just completely and utterly laughed my booty off from how witty and smart and cute and sad it is.

I may need to go re-watch it again just for the feels :)

Yes. Goosebumps. I was a thug child. That's probably why I'm deathly afraid of the dark, and why I have such trouble sleeping at night..BUT HOLLLAAA :D

“Usually we walk around constantly believing ourselves. "I'm okay" we say. "I'm alright". But sometimes the truth arrives on you and you can't get it off. That's when you realize that sometimes it isn't even an answer--it's a question. Even now, I wonder how much of my life is convinced.”
- Markus Zusak

Day 17: Your Favourite quote...

Okay so I can't do this, I have 3 favourite quotes, but it counts 'cos it's all from the same book ;)

Day 16: Your Favourite Female Character

Well...this one is a LITTLE more easier than the favourite male character. Oddly enough for me, I really don't like many female protagonists.

It's because my favourites DIE. I'm saving them. I'm the true hero.

So umm...

I've only read one book from Markus Zusak at this point...

*whispers* don't judge me...
Does it count that my favourite book of all time is my favourite author's book?
Yes.

Day 13: Your Favourite Writer.

"Internationally acclaimed author Markus Zusak was born June 23, 1975. His mother, of German descent, and his father, of Austrian descent, inspired his writing in ways that only parents who have witnessed some of humanity’s greatest crimes can."

Markus is my favourite author because of his writing style. In The Book Thief, what really took me away and actually made it become my favourite book ever was because of the writing and the metaphors that were in it.

Not only is Markus probably THE most attractive writer that I have ever been blessed to see, but he is the most beautiful writer.

Uggggggh.....Marrrkkussss Zusssaaaak....

Day 12: A book that you used to love but you don't anymore.

Here's the blurb!

"When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder― much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing―not even a smear of blood―to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end."

Day 11: A Book you hated.

I..yeah...just read this snippet from Goodreads.

"There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce – he goes out of his way to make that very clear. But she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Luce has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, FALLEN is a page-turning thriller and the ultimate love story."

I'm really trying to hold back from face-palming myself into Oblivion. I read this book once while I was sick, and I read about less than half of it until 2am and I got to this point where I just made this face -

and proceeded to throw the across my room and just fume for around 30 minutes with this same look until I angrily fumed myself to sleep. i can't even tell you how stupid this book is, I can't...I just can't. Never read this book unless you are doing it for ironic purposes!

Day 10: Favourite Classic Book

This counts as a Classic for me...it's 50+ years old. It's classic, okay?

My favourite classical book is 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury. I read this recently actually because I found it in my older brother's room and I remembered talking about it with Mara once before...so I instantly snuck it into my jacket like Liesel and since then...read 'till my heart was never  even close to contentness.

This book has an absolutely FANTASTIC plot, and the idea for it is amazing. I did write a review for it previously, so you can check that out if you're interested in more :) This truly is an amazing book though...definitely worth its classic title.

Day 9: A Book that you thought you wouldn't like, but ended up really loving.

So...like Mara, this was kind of a hard one because if I even suspect a little bit that I don't like a book, I won't read it. I already have a lot on my plate, so I don't want to be wasting my time on something that I won't like (CoughFallencough)
but, when I thought about it, I actually did have a very specific book for this day! :P That book would be Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I don't really connect too well to Classical books, for me they are really hard to read and I find it quite hard to relate to them personally, so for me it's a struggle, I actually have to motivate myself to read it by pumping myself up and going " I CAN DO THIS!"...which you should never have to do when reading a book.
But I was pleasantly surprised when reading Pride and Prejudice that I actually loved it. It was witty, romantic and taking what was normally found romantic back then and twisting it on its head, and I love Elizabeth Bennet and her sass. She is a sassy, classy, lady :)

And also I love all the stupidly romantic quotes in it...and the first time I watched the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley I just..i just...ugh...want to live in the period ages forever.

Day 6: A Book that makes you sad.

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky.
This is a little snippet from Goodreads.

"Charlie is a freshmen. And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it.

Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But he can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up."

I don't know what it was about Perks that just set me off and made me absolutely miserable from how truthful it is. I think it's 'cos I've had same experiences like Charlie had. I've been the introvert Wallflower that snugs to the walls and corners of the room at parties, I've been the centre of attention because everyone knew that I was quiet compared to everyone else. I've been the friend that is just so openly honest and wears my heart on my sleeve and has those friend closest to you have fights, misunderstanding, etc, and inevitably separate. I have never connected and felt so close to a character before Charlie. Charlie is the type of character that you want to wrap in a snuggly warm blanket, to give them a hot chocolate, and to whisper encouraging things to them to hope that everything will be okay for them...to give them hope. The first time I read it, it was a loan from Mara. I remember reading it through the night, and just tearing up and aching for Charlie. I really empathised with him, and knew exactly the things he felt. This book is depressing in a melancholy way, and hits the parts of my childhood/teen years that sometimes I don't like repeating to myself.

Day 5: A book that makes you happy.

FANGIRL. FANGIRL. I CAN'T DEAL. Ugh. This book is absolute amazing perfectioness of happiness, even while there are tough times that Cather (Main protagonist) deals with, it makes me happy. So incredibly happy :)  The romance, the family relations, the way Cather deals with anxiety and the same issues that I deal with myself...and half the time I was reading the romantic scenes with Cather and You-Know-Who (Not Voldemort, sorry guys) I was just...in fangirl pain. Constantly just smacking my face into the book, messaging Mara and Savannah about the pain and emotions and feel I was experiencing, and crying about how I'll never meet my very own Levi....so in reality...I'm quintessentially saying -

Day 4: Favourite book of your Favourite series.

I absolutely adore this book. "The Brothers: A Prologue' by Chris Stewart is an amazing novel, and to get started, this is the snippet from Goodreads.

"Before the Great War, before so many sons of God turned away from their Father and walked knowingly into the dark, there was a choosing, a sifting, a contest of ideas and a battle for souls. Brother fought brother. Families were torn apart. Some fought to protect their homes, their freedom and peace. Others fought to destroy everything they had once held so dear. And as the battle between good and evil came into each home, all God's children had to chose which side they were on, which principles would they fight for, and what price would they pay.
In this contest before the Great War, each of us learned the first lessons of life. The great ones may fall. The wicked can change. The weak and the foolish can be made the strongest of all. And when the contest was over, we also had learned the greatest secret of all: the children of God can defeat their adversary, for they have fought him before."

The reason I liked this book so much is mainly because it came at a time in my life where I was really struggling, and how it puts a new perspective or look on the Plan of Salvation for each one of us individually. As I continued reading it, I had these moments where I'd read a line that just hit me so hard emotionally and even spiritually. I remember one of the things that really struck me was how Chris Stewart wrote how he imagined Satan (Or Lucifer, if you want. Or even Adversary) talking and whispering to his followers. The way he described him, with his dark and grotesque features when no one was looking but having the ability to look handsome, charming, even desirable when he was in the presence of others. He was able to flatter people, to persuade them according to the things they wanted to hear, but he also whispered into the ears of the followers of Jesus Christ by making them doubt, making them feel inadequate and making them second guess everything. It was a big explosion in my mind of how much I connected to the characters when they were being tempted, and whispered to, and how I hear the exact same things when I'm going through dark times in my life.
I also absolutely adored all the characters in the family. I connected to each one of them differently, and they were beautifully flawed. None of them were outrageously courageous, but they were brave when they needed to be. They had weaknesses, which were acted upon and used as a weapon against them and they reacted like anyone of else would. Their stories made me question and reflect on my own story and journey, and the entirety of the book made me slowly realise my part in the Plan of Salvation and the choices I made personally not only in this life, but the one previous. It put a lot of things into perspective for me, such as what was really and truly important to me and what things were good but not the greatest.

I absolutely adored this book, I still do and I often think about reading it every 6 months just to refresh and find new things that I wouldn't have last time being younger. I always recommend this book to my church friends, as it would change how they think as it did for me :)

The only thing I would say is that it's not a book for everyone. I believe personally that Atheists or those who don't believe in a 'higher power' would probably laugh at the first page and stop reading it, and maybe even some other Christians would think it's completely fictionally demented...but I found this book amazing, inspirational, and a different perspective that most of us are used to looking at.
And of course - one of my favourite quotes from this book.

“God can't force his children to become like him. It's something they have to want, a blessing they have to fight for and be willing to sacrifice to attain.”

Day 3: Favourite Series.

My all time favourite series has to be - "The Great and Terrible" by Chris Stewart.
I honestly cannot get enough of this series. It's not like the usual book series that I talk about or fangirl over, because this one is so special to me. In a brief summary, this book follows a family in the Pre-existence as they choose which side - Satan, or Jesus Christ. As they make their decisions, and are sent to Earth to live separate lives, you see how their personalities and desires affect them in the mortal life that they lead, and how everything works out.

I was given this as a recommendation by my Uncle, and instead of just getting one of the books, I bought the entire series and had it shipped from America. #Hardcorethuglifebookworm.
I then got sick (As I suspiciously always do right before I get massive book series...) and got to read the entire thing in about a week or two. It completely blew my mind. There were times where I just put the book down that I was reading and really reflect and think about it and it just..it was astonishingly beautiful.

My only thing was that it was very war orientated. Sometimes it would go oN AND ON for pages about war related and I found myself skimming and yawning whenever they mentioned the strategies or type of war planes.

Other than that. I shipped everything. I cried internally over everything :D I LOVE THIS SERIES!

Day 2: A book that you've read more than three times.

Now, I'm not really the one for re-reading books. Even some of my favourite books I haven't read it a thousand times over. For me, it's weird to go back and try to re-feel everything I felt the first time reading the book. It's like going back to somewhere you lived as a child, and trying to feel and think how you did back then. Like Lana Del Ray once said, "It's a certain kind of sadness". The only ever book that I've read more than 3 times, and possibly reaching 6 times now is...
