- The first time I tried to read The Book Thief I only made it about 30 pages, then had to stop. Now before anyone gets too carried away and says "But Mara, that's one of your favourite books. That doesn't make any sense." Let me explain. When I go to the library I will always, without fail, check out more books than I can read. So I checked out like three and The Book Thief was the only one I read any of because it was exam period and dance concert time and unfortunately I had to return it before the end of the school year. I checked it out again the next year, loved it, and the rest is history.
- When we read One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest in school I dog-eared and marked pages with pencil. GASP!!! I know. I know. It's horrible and I can kind of explain this one, but I can't really justify it. My copy was already really marked up and I needed it for the test and I'm sorry to anyone I've ever shamed for dog-earing. I am one of you now.
- I am the worst when it comes to spoilers. You might not think so, based on reading my posts so far (or maybe you do), but in real life I have no filter. When I get worked up/ excited about a book it all just comes tumbling out of my mouth before I can stop myself. I have famously spoiled the ending of Allegiant for Sav (I'm still really sorry about that) and the entire Hunger Games trilogy for Dannie (sorry again). So just stay away if you don't want things to get spoiled.
-I saw the Perks of Being a Wallflower movie before I read the book. I know this probably isn't a big deal to some people, but I'm just disappointed in myself and my life choices on this one.
- I only read Ender's Game because I heard Asa Butterfield was going to be in the movie adaptation. I'm pretty sure I've admitted this before, but still. It was actually also the same reason I finally decided to buy Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. And now they're two of my favourite books, so maybe it's not such a bad thing after all.
- I read the Harry Potter books out of order (of the phoenix) hahahahaha. I read them in the following order (no I'm not going to make that joke again); 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1, 7. For some dumb reason I got it into my head that I didn't need to read the first one and then I reconsidered just before the last book was released.
- There have been a couple of series where I've "outgrown" them before the final book in the series was released. This kind of breaks my heart. Examples include the Inkheart series, Raven's Gate series, Stormrider series, Artemis Fowl series. So on, so forth.
- I skipped half of the Series of Unfortunate events books, but then let's be honest, who didn't? I love Lemony Snicket. Don't get me wrong, but 13 books was excessive and the ending was a total disappointment. I basically read 1-7 and 13.
So there you have it. Hate me if you want, but don't pretend you're so perfect. We've all done book related things we regret. What are some of yours? Don't be ashamed. This is a judgement free zone, unless you read your books like this >>> Then I will kill you <3
